Uday Duggal is a Senior Associate at RCLT Law Corporation. His key areas of focus are civil and commercial litigation, arbitration, and criminal defence work. He has experience at all levels of the Singapore Courts.

Prior to joining RCLT, Uday trained and practised under the guidance of one of Singapore’s top Senior Counsel. Uday also previously served as Regional Counsel and Company Secretary at American International Group (AIG) Singapore, overseeing corporate governance matters.

Uday graduated from the University of Durham, where his final-year dissertation was featured in the Durham Law Review. He is fluent in Hindi.

Representative Portfolio

  • Successfully defended a local architect in a High Court trial concerning alleged construction defects, delay in the completion of works, and the architect’s certification process: reported in GTMS Construction v Ser Kim Koi [2021] SGHC 9.
  • Acted for beneficiaries alleging breaches by the trustee of a testamentary trust, obtaining an order for an account of the trust on a wilful default basis: reported in Devin Jethanand Bhojwani v Jethanand Harkishindas Bhojwani [2024] SGHC 310.
  • Defended a “Big 4” accounting firm in High Court proceedings for alleged professional negligence in carrying out an audit, with the matter resolved by way of a favourable settlement.
  • Acted for the Court-appointed administrator of the Mustafa estate in a family dispute involving minority oppression and breaches of various duties by the prior estate administrator.
  • Acted for a prominent oil and gas product testing company in a High Court claim against a former employee for breaches of non-solicitation and non-competition clauses./li>
  • Acted as lead counsel in the State Courts for a “Big 4” accounting firm seeking unpaid professional fees, including overseeing garnishee and examination of judgment debtor (EJD) applications.
  • Acted as lead counsel in the State Courts in a vehicular leasing dispute, appearing in a successful mediation leading to a favourable settlement.
  • Acted for a Japanese engineering company resisting the setting aside of an arbitral award before the Court of Appeal: reported in CAJ v CAI [2021] SGCA 102.
  • Acted for a large group of mall unit owners in claims for misrepresentation against a prominent property developer, and appeared before the Court of Appeal to successfully overturn a High Court stay of those proceedings in favour of arbitration: reported in Richard Cheung and others v LVND Investments [2021] SGCA 77.
  • Worked alongside the appointed emergency arbitrator (Thio Shen Yi, SC) to prepare arbitral awards in an SIAC-administered emergency arbitration, concerning various urgent applications for relief arising from non-compliance under a shipbuilding joint venture agreement.
  • Acted for the general manager of a company convicted of offences relating to the wrongful confinement of foreign workers during the Covid-19 outbreak, with a non-custodial sentence imposed.
  • Acted for the co-founder of Fullerton Healthcare Corporation facing charges for falsification of documents and corruption.
  • Acted as lead defence counsel in several pro bono criminal matters under the Criminal Legal Aid Scheme.
  • Advised two major social media platforms on potential liability under the Protection from Online Falsehoods and Manipulation Act (POFMA) and the Foreign Interference (Countermeasures) Act (FICA), as well as on assorted take-down requests received from the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA).
  • As Company Secretary for AIG Singapore, liaised with the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) and AIG entities across Asia on key regulatory developments and corporate governance matters.
