RCLT successfully represented a client who had been sentenced to 13 years’ imprisonment in an appeal against that sentence.
The client, a Relationship Manager and vice president in a leading international bank, was charged in 2018 for forging 112 instruction letters between 2006 to 2013 to perform at least 112 corresponding unauthorised transactions relating to accounts belonging to her clients.
She pleaded guilty in a District Court, which sentenced her to 13 years’ imprisonment.
On appeal however, the High Court found that the District Court had failed to appreciate the facts before it and imposed a sentence wrong in principle
The High Court approached the matter de novo and substituted the client’s sentence with an imprisonment term of 10 years and 7 months’ imprisonment.
